Green Holidays

At South Allington House we are proud of our green credentials and we want to do our bit to help protect the world for future generations.

We have been awarded the Green Tourism Business Scheme Silver Award, which provides independent accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. We are committed to adhering to good environmental practice, achieving sustainable environmental improvement and continuing to reduce polluting activities.

Our Environmental Policy includes using energy-saving lightbulbs, fitting an Elimileak water alarm meter and solar panels, using dispensers to reduce plastic waste, and using water butts in the grounds.

We use environmentally-friendly cleaning products, recycle wherever possible, and use a wormery.

The farm surrounding South Allington House is part of the Higher Level Stewardship, which involves implementing conservation measures, including leaving winter stubbles, allowing a natural habitat for wildlife and providing a valuable food source during winter months. We work in conjunction with the RSPB for the benefit of the endangered cirl bunting – we leave field margins around the outside of our land, creating ‘nature corridors’ which in turn encourages the return of the cirl bunting.

Another way in which we try and protect the natural habitat of flora and fauna is our rotational hedge trimming – we don’t trim every hedge every year, to ensure our wildlife always has a protected environment. These measures ensure protection is offered also for horseshoe bats. We support our local community and economy, using produce from local suppliers where possible, and tasting our homemade jam and marmalade is a must during your stay!

If you are fortunate, during your break at South Allington House, you may spot many species of flora and fauna, from badgers, foxes and cirl bunting, through to frogs and ducklings on our ponds.
